Becoming a Mermaid: Interpreting the Waves | Rachel Jones | TEDxCSUMontereyBay
This talk explores the cycles and rituals that shape human behavior, from habits and substance use to mental health and meaning-making. Through a sociological and creative lens, it examines how we interpret the world around us and how patterns, like waves, can help us understand ourselves and others more deeply. Rachel is pursuing a degree in Sociology as a transfer student to CSUMB and enthusiastically works as a youth program activity leader. She sociologically and creatively expands upon connection of ritual, habit, substance use, mental health, and human interpretation of the real world. Rachel’s ‘artsy’ approach sticks very true to this year’s theme, Waves, as this is what inspired her to participate in speaking. After school, she plans to flow with the waves and see where they take her, though she’s aspiring for a career where she can use the skills she has to collaborate with and serve others, in whatever form that takes This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
