Home Away from Home: myth or legend? | Maria Camarudin Campos | TEDxBSA Youth

As an international student, Maria found the most common, shared question she and her peers faced is: “Where is home?”
Through Maria’s talk, she explores the concept of “home” and why she always felt so confined by such a simple question. Her goal was to connect with those who have felt the same way; she hopes to provide an idea for a mutual understanding, in order to ease the inner conflicts she has often felt when explaining home.

A close-to-the-heart talk where Maria encourages us to reconsider the meanings we attribute to ‘home’, especially those of us who have lived in various countries and continents, whilst inspiring us to find the values and support we need wherever we are. Maria Campos, although Portuguese, has had the privilege of growing up in 4 countries and 2 continents, shaping her unique perspective on identity, belonging, and the meaning of “home.”

Through storytelling, Maria hopes to challenge the conventional notion of identity and home, and invites her audience to embrace the joy of a life shaped by movement. Whether you’re an expat, a third-culture kid, or someone questioning where you truly belong, she aspires to share messages that resonate with the universal search for connection and identity in an ever-globalized world. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
